Workshop: Industrial Hygiene 101

This course will provide an overview of what an industrial hygienist (IH) is for the safety professional who might not be too familiar with the practice. It will also provide attendees with a general history of the industrial hygiene profession that developed centuries ago. We will review the primary principals in support of required medical surveillance programs. We will review the role of the IH in identifying workplace illnesses and injuries from t he OSHA 300 log. This training will also discuss which OSHA Standards have medical surveillance requirements, using Biological Exposure Indices (BEI) to confirm or supplement exposure determinations and touch upon workplace diseases attributed to chemical exposures.
