Chapter Meeting: Collaborative Robotics Safety & Demonstration



Eastern New York Chapter of the American Society of Safety Engineers is proud to announce the following technical meeting on May 29th, 2016 at the General Electric Global Research facility in Niskayuna, beginning at 3:00 p.m.:

Topic: Intro to Collaborative Robotics Safety & Demonstration

Robots without cages?! The presentation will serve as an introduction to the new robotics standard ANSI/RIA R15.6-2012 with specific attention to collaborative robotic applications and safety requirements. We’ll review the impact of game-changing technology that has been adopted into the standard and explore what an EHS professional needs to consider if their company is thinking of adding collaborative robots to their operations. We’ll also have Baxter from Rethink Robotics for a hands-on demonstration.

Presenter - Jim Biaglow:

Jim joined the GE Global Research HQ in November 2011 as the Senior Site Safety Engineer working in the Environmental, Health & Safety Department. In this role, Jim has primary responsibility for leading EHS programs for Safety in Design, Management of Change (MOC), Safety Risk Assessments, Robotic Safety, Electrical &Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) and the Human & Organizational Performance (HOP) program. Jim has over 20 years of EHS experience in the manufacturing, chemical, defense and R&D businesses. Jim is a Special Government Employee (SGE) under OSHA’s Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) since 2006. Jim holds professional certifications as a Certified Safety Professional (CSP) and as a Certified Hazardous Material Manager (CHMM). He is a long-standing member of the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE).


We meet at the Security Building (01 Research Cir. Niskayuna NY 12309) at 3:00 pm for signing in and issuing of badges. The presentation and demonstration begins at 3:30 pm and will go till 5:00 pm. Please RSVP by 1 PM Friday May 20th .
