10th Anniversary of 2008 Imperial Sugar Explosion

Region 2 VPP Sites:

"On February 7, 2008, a huge explosion and fire occurred at the Imperial Sugar refinery northwest of Savannah, Georgia, causing 14 deaths and injuring 38 others, including 14 with serious and life-threatening burns. The explosion was fueled by massive accumulations of combustible sugar dust throughout the packaging building.

The U.S. Chemical Safety Board's webpage has more information about the incident (including a 9:28 video). Learning more about this tragedy is one way to mark the anniversary this Wednesday and possibly prevent similar events. Please consider sharing information about this incident with your coworkers this week during safety meetings or toolbox talks."
